jizi Privacy Policy

Applies to the jizi iPhone app. Last updated October 21, 2026.

jizi has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. The developer does not collect, receive or sell any of your data. Your collection, your library and your settings stay on your device. The app goes online only to fetch what you ask for, to read its own settings file, and to reach a cloud service if you choose to connect one.

Your collection and library

The characters, words and moments you collect, your review history, your reading positions and your settings are stored in the app on your device. Videos, books, manga and audio you import are copied into the app. An export is a file you create and share yourself. Settings › Erase data removes the collection and history, and deleting the app removes everything.

Camera, photos and the share sheet

A photo you take with the in-app camera, pick from your library or share into jizi is read on your device to find its text. It stays in the app unless you save or share it yourself. jizi asks to add to your photo library only when you choose to save an image there.

Subtitles, speech and translation

By default, subtitles are generated by Apple's on-device speech recognition, translations come from Apple's on-device Translation, and text is read aloud with the voices on your device. None of this leaves your device unless you pick a cloud account for that tool, as described below.

Podcasts, feeds and covers

When you search for a podcast, your search goes to Apple's podcast directory. The feeds you follow, their episodes and articles, and cover art are downloaded directly from the sites that publish them. Like any website, those servers see your IP address. jizi sends them nothing else about you.

The app's settings file

When it opens, jizi downloads a small settings file from jizi.app, hosted by Cloudflare. It carries default model names and suggestions for the optional cloud tools. The request carries nothing about you; Cloudflare, as the host, sees your IP address.

Optional cloud accounts

Every tool works on your device until you connect a cloud account in its settings. If you connect one and use it, the text, audio or image area you ask about is sent directly from your device to that provider, under your account with them, and their privacy policy applies:

• OpenRouter, with your own API key (privacy policy).
• ChatGPT, with your own OpenAI sign-in (privacy policy). Using it also downloads the model instructions OpenAI publishes on GitHub, which sees your IP address.
• Apple, through Private Cloud Compute on supported iPhones (privacy policy).

API keys and sign-ins are kept in your device's keychain and are never sent to the developer.

Purchases

Unlimited collecting is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and your subscription, and the app checks your purchase with Apple on your device. The developer receives no payment details and nothing that identifies you.

Children

jizi collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
